Common Questions

Remittance FAQs

What is a tax remittance?
A tax remittance is a payment you make to the government for taxes you have collected or withheld on their behalf. Common examples include GST/HST collected from customers, payroll deductions withheld from employees, and PST collected on sales.
How often do I need to remit GST/HST?
Your GST/HST filing frequency depends on your annual revenue. Businesses with less than $1.5 million in revenue typically file annually. Businesses between $1.5 million and $6 million file quarterly. Businesses over $6 million file monthly. We will confirm your correct filing frequency when you come on as a client.
What is the penalty for a late GST/HST remittance?
The penalty for a late GST/HST remittance starts at 1% of the amount owing, plus an additional 1% for each full month it remains unpaid, up to 12 months. Interest also applies. Repeated late filings can result in higher penalties.
Do I need to register for PST in Manitoba?
If your annual sales of taxable goods and services in Manitoba exceed $10,000, you are required to register for and collect PST. You can register voluntarily if you are below this threshold, but once registered you must collect and remit PST regardless of your sales volume.
What are corporate tax instalments?
Corporate tax instalments are quarterly prepayments of your estimated annual corporate tax. Most corporations are required to make quarterly instalment payments rather than paying their full tax bill at year end. We calculate the correct instalment amounts and make sure they are paid on time.
Do you also handle bookkeeping, payroll and taxes?
